Today I finally installed iTunes 8.2 on my Windows Vista PC and I got the iTunes Trojan Horse small.bog virus alert. Could there really be a iTunes trojan or iTunes virus in my download?

The problem was in:
C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\iTunes.dll

While researching the problem, more infections occurred. These are:

C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources\pl.lproj\iPodServiceLocalized.dll
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources\pt.lproj\iPodServiceLocalized.dll
C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources\pt_PT.lporj\iPodServiceLocalized.dll

Now I was using iTunes on my Mac and did not experience this problem. I did some research on this and believe this is a false alert on AVG. Just ignore it if you get the same message. You're safe if you downloaded your file from Apple.com.

Solution:

  1. Under resident shield settings uncheck Resident Shield Active.
  2. Click Manage Expectations my computer/localdisk:c/programfiles, then click iTunes and Ok.
  3. Save the settings install new iTunes then after its installed go back to resident Shield and check the box you unchecked before.

Update: I just contacted AVG, and they have confirmed that this is a false positive. They have updated their definition files and fixed this. Update AVG and install iTunes, you won't get this message any more. :)

Thank you very much, I had downloaded avast! just in case because the AVG program wasn't doing anything about it, glad to see it was a false alarm.
