yellow sn0w said...: @Anonymous: It won't work on 2.1 because you have a 02.27 baseband. DevTeam has restricted it to 02.28 baseband so you must jailbreak and update to iPhone 3G firmware 2.2 in order to use this unlock. CrunchGear has a guide on this here:

@Anonymous 2: Try taking out your SIM card, locking the phone for 5 minutes, and then insert sim card and wait 5 minutes when it's at the slide-to-unlock screen. Slide the unlock screen after 5 minutes and see if this works.; January 1, 2009 11:58 AM

Jamie said...: Right it wasn't working but it is now for the 3 Network in UK. I kept taking the sim card in and out and it kept showing no service. I then turned airplane mode on left it for a few mins and then switched airplane mode off and hey presto it worked. 3G and everything.

To make it work, i installed yellowsn0w via installer with an o2 sim in, rebooted, pressed home then the power button to switch the keylock on. removed o2 sim and replaced with the third party sim (orange voda, etc...) then waited for a few mins and this worked. if 'no sim' or 'invalid sim' is displayed, press home then the power button again remove and insert sim again and wait for network to be found. hope this helps, and if can answer any other questions i will do as i know how desperate i was for this to work. once again many, many thanks to the devs!; January 1, 2009 1:35 PM

"No Service" it said. I tried it again, this time with the TurboSim underneath my sim card. This time it gave me signal and I could even make calls. Took the sim card out to install my sisters sim card(she is the owner of the phone). No I'm not getting any signals, just one bar of reception or "No Service".

I tried to install yellosn0w on the first on through installer but nothing happened. Then I used cydia and it worked exactly the way you described it. On the second phone I had to restart couple of times after the installation and remove the sim several times but finally i got it working! Thanks a lot!

now I just installed through Cidya, and after waiting about 10 minutes and take it out and in, for 3 times, I finally got the T-mobile bars, but is true, cant make any call, and the bars is gone...
May we here in US have to wait it be fixed.

I've tried most of the instructions above and none seemed to work. It just stayed at "...." with no carrier. After a while it would show "No service" and if i waited even longer it would eventually get onto the sim cards carrier.

Although it is showing the carrier i cannot send messages nor make phonecalls (opening the "Phone" it just hangs for 3-4secs and then closes itself) Calling through "Contacts" just gives the line "Call failed".

When trying to turn on and off the airplane mode i just get "Invalid SIM"

Now i've put my original sim back in and as soon as i make any calls it seems to drop ='( Even when not calling it drops randomly every 2-3 minutes.

Je vous donne la manipulation que j'ai faite car bon nombre de personne sur SFR et autres ont eu le même problême c'est à dire RIEN.

Je ne suis pas un expert loin de là c'est pourquoi je vais vous dire ce que j'ai fait pas à pas.

1- Enlever la carte sim.
2- Restauration via itunes 2.2
3- Toujours sans carte sim jailbreaké l'iphone via quickpwn 2.2

Et la plus rien dans opérateur (carrier) "null" et l'iphone est en anglais

4- Installer Bossprefs
5- Puis additionner la source http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com/ à cydia et installer yellowsn0w
6- Revenir à Bossprefs vérifier à désactiver tous les services puis rebooter l'iphone via ce programme
7- Retirer votre sim 10 secondes puis la remettre et attendre 30 secondes
8- aller dans mode avion et le desactiver pendant 10 secondes puis le reactiver.
9- Profiter de votre iphone 3g sur votre réseau car il apparait après quelques secondes.

Encore une fois un grand merci a la dev-team et j'espère que mon premier tuto qui je sais n'est pas très expert, mais pour moi ça marche nikel reception émission avec la 3g activé.

I had to fiddle around a bit with the SIM card on another phone. i.e. set network selection to auto and band selection to dual (GSM/UMTS) mode. then pop into Iphone and reboot with Bossprefs.

tested calls/ SMS/ Data all working fine in 3G mode.

Tried following all of the methods above.. nothing worked.. then decided to just try everything.. rebooted a couple of times.. disabled all controls in BossPrefs and enabled them.. removed the SIM card and turned airplane mode on and off...

Works great with 3G on and data transfer is just fine. I can make and receive phone calls and text messages.

Thank you iPhone Dev team! Now I can get rid of that nasty TurboSIM!

My advice.. patience.. go make a cup of coffee (or ten).. and always wait for your phone to say 'No Service' before you do the next step.

By the way if you'd read everything you'd know that yellowsn0w is currently in beta and should be used at your own risk. So if it don't work for you you've only got yourself to blame.

I will wait for a day or two before unlocking my 3g iPhone, this will give me chance to research most eventualities.
