Did you ignore the Dev Team's post about upgrading to firmware 2.2? You're in luck! The Dev Team has made yellowsn0w compatible with the newer baseband.
What does this mean?
You can upgrade to a jailbroken firmware 2.2 on your iPhone 3G using PwnageTool (MAC) or QuickPWN (Windows/MAC) regardless of the baseband. Now Windows users will no longer need to get a custom firmware to prepare their iPhone 3G for the unlock. Stay tuned for the yellowsn0w package which will be available in Cydia by 12 PM PST at the latest.
Edit: The following screenshot by Muscle Nerd proves that yellowsn0w will work on ANY baseband. :)

@Anonymous: You need to have a jailbroken iPhone 3G in order to unlock your iPhone 3G with yellowsn0w. You can go ahead and jailbreak to the latest firmware 2.2 with PwnageTool or QuickPWN. Once you've done that just wait for the yellowsn0w package to show up in Cydia. :)

After I saw this message, I quickly updated my iPhone to 2.2.
However, I made a big mistake. In my iPhone 2.1 setting, I used BossPrefs to hide Cydia and Installer, but I still had BossPref available. Now, after I updated to 2.2, then QuickPwn it, I cannot see any icon of Cydia, Installer and BossPref.
How can I enable Cydia and Installer back?

I have jailbroken my iPhone 3G 2.1 however when I try to download yellowsn0w via Cydia it doesn't allow as I have no network. Can anybody help me on how to download without having the phone unlocked before?

when you quickpwn it it should give you an option to install cydia and installer, but just re-install 2.2 using itunes then quickpwn it choosing cydia check box

how do you download the sources? when i load it on iphone it just brings a white page with huge yellowsn0w writing nothing else for both of them even for my macbook. keep us posted,
Download and installed to 3G (2.28.00) to manay drop call. Like every 30 Seconds
so i was able to download from cydia but when i put in the tmobile card and restart the iphone it still doesnt recognize the card, carrier says n/a i was reading the download thing that you guys have, and my iphone doesnt go to the slide to unlock screen goes right to the main screen

Problem: I am in Germany. Firmware is as requested. Boot done, Sim in and out - but no carrier. PIN switched off, G3 Switched off - no carrier;
Any advice? Carrier should be BASE (EPLUS)..

bought fresh iphone3g, jailbroke it, add yellowsn0w and installed it, replaced sim from 02 to T-mobile, waited on home screen for 10 secs, no joy. have also tried with 3G disabled, still doesnt work.

Very unstable. after 1 hour of putiing sim in and out was able to get the carrier. tried switching off and on and havent been able to get it again.
ok so i followed a guys advice of just waiting for a while with the alternate sim card in place, the iphone now reads t-mobile, just put in the sim after installing yellowsn0w, and wait idk how long i was waiting i just put it down and did house cleaning haha, and came back and found iphone is working with t-mobile,

ya i haveing same issues with number 51 post, it works and i can recieve calls but i cant call out, when i call from the iphone all service shuts down wiered help
I have the carrier rec as T-Mobile and can receive calls and snd/receive texts. However, I have the same prob everyone else has in that it will not make calls. After I try, I have to turn fly mode on for a few secs, turn it off, wait 10 secs, take the SIM out and re-insert and all bars come back, but still can't make calls.
yup i wanted to unlock it to play around with it but i drop lose signal every 30 seconds with legal att card so im going to re lock it and wait for update

doesnt work at all at ma iphone 3G.
updated to 2.2 modem 2.28, no network. Swisscom phone and O2 germany sim. it is not possible to downgrade to 2.1 that my old rebelsim works, so i have no phone right now! hope there will be an update soon! I bet on you! go on like that!
seems like it is only affecting at&t and t-mobile dev team i am pretty sure you guys are trying to solve this problem, keep us updated, it still will not let me call out useing t-mobile only recieve texts and calls no outgoing what so ever

I can''t make a call but I can receive calls. Can't send text messages. Currently have ATT in the US as a carrier and I am in Colombia trying to use Comcel. The SIM works in another phone that I have but will not work in the iPhone. I can get the carrier signal (even in 3g) but I can't make the call. It seems like it trys but then hangs. Using yellowsn0w 9.4 (or 9.0.4 or whatever).
Using ATT (in the US) as a carrier trying to get access using Comcel (Bogota Colombia). I can't make any calls. I can receive calls. It says the call failed using the Comcel SIM. Can't send text messages. I get a good signal from Comcel.
Thanks guys! I was wondering do I need to update fresh MobileInstallation file inside the Iphone3G because all my apps i have installed r not working and so far I tried I cant even access device through port 22 with WinSCP using root and alpine as a password.

Dev team specifically said Yellowsn0w will ONLY work with 2.28.00. Remember once you update your modem firmware you can not go back to the old firmware. 2.28.00 does not work with turboSIM. For those that have had problems, try using older SIM cards with no special features first to try and get a signal. If that doesn't work try the ff: Switch off Data Roaming and 3G. Go in and out of Airplane Mode. Reset Network settings. Reboot iPhone. Be patient and wit a few mins and make sure you're in an area that has signal in the first place.
i have just yellowsn0w-ed my colleague's iphone.his iphone works. but the thing is after ive switch on the 3G and EDGE,no 3G or EDGE line captured.mine is already officially unlocked and 3G symbol shown steadily on top.
One more thing is if his Iphone is reboot,after rebooting he has to switch ON the Airplane Mode and wait a few seconds (20 seconds at most),and switch OFF the Airplane Mode again,after that the Iphone will start searching for carrier line.Kinda tedious to do such things after each reboot.
